How to Make Your Deck Child-Friendly

Castle Rock deck contractors

Making your deck child-friendly can require a lot of different measures, one of which is to keep the deck low enough to prevent injury if your child falls off of it. Additional safety features, however, should also be included especially if you have an overly active toddler roaming around.

One of the ways to make your deck safe for children is to install safety-oriented railings even if the deck isn’t necessarily tall. Lower heights can still be dangerous for small children that can actually slip between the railings and fall off. As a result, your railings should be tightly knit together to ensure that doesn’t happen, as well as tall enough and designed to prevent young kids and toddlers from climbing them.

According to Castle Rock deck contractors with lots of experience, decks that are child-friendly are also built of materials that don’t easily chip or become damaged when you hit them by mistake. Some types of wood can chip easily and present a hazard when kids play in that area and step on the chipped wood. The use of robust wood or composite decking materials is therefore a necessity for building a child-friendly deck.

Finally, privacy is also essential for child safety. Make sure to erect a privacy fence around your deck, so you can allow your kids to play around without being exposed to prying eyes.
